Live According to God’s Purpose

Does change make you uncomfortable? Change is going to happen – we can depend on it. How will you respond? Fear of the unknown is often an anxiety riddled response. Whether you experience loneliness and pain or joy and comfort, we serve a God who never changes. (Hebrews 13:8) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. In times of change, remember that our God is faithful.

In times of transition, when circumstances are changing, we can trust a sovereign and loving God to order all the events in our lives according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28) And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Every chapter of our life has its proper time ordained by God. We see this clearly in the book of Ecclesiastes. Each verse is matched with an opposite characteristic. We must accept God’s timetable or be broken by it. Through all the transitions and all the routine events of our lives, choose to Rest in Him.

(Ecclesiastes 3:1-8) To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born, And a time to die;

A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;

A time to kill, And a time to heal;
A time to break down, And a time to build up;
A time to weep, And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain, And a time to lose;
A time to keep, And a time to throw away;
A time to tear, And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, And a time to speak;
A time to love, And a time to hate;
A time of war, And a time of peace.

Thank you, Lord, that you are the same every day. You have a plan for our lives. Help us to live according to your purpose.

Cleanse Me Lord That My Broken Bones Will Rejoice

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.  Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice. Psalm 51:7-8

King David felt the weight of his own sin and understood the path of repentance would open the door for God’s forgiveness.

Bones are the strength and framework of the body. At times God must figuratively or literally crush our bones in order to lead us from the path of sin.

This is my testimony – following a misguided search for love and acceptance, I found myself immersed in a biker gang. I was miserable and wanted to escape, but I was trapped. God in His mercy allowed me to become a victim in a biker gang war and made a way of escape for me.

The bullets from M16 rifles inflicted much pain and suffering. The bones in my arm and leg were crushed.  At first, I thought God was punishing me. In the long months in the hospital, my heart began to soften.

Like King David, I cried out to the Lord,  Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

Receiving the inward assurance of God’s forgiveness caused my bones to rejoice. I now dance with joy and gladness on weakened legs because my salvation has been restored.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise. Psalm 51:17

Thank you, Lord, for your forgiveness of sin and your restoration out of brokenness.

Receive the Gift of God’s Joy

God is our source of JOY

Not feeling joyful this season? I know Christmas is not always a happy time for everyone. It was not joyous for me the year I lay in a hospital bed alone and sorrowful. Myjoy-1823939_640-1 body was encased in plaster and my leg in traction.

There was the year my father died on December 23 and our family spent Christmas Day in the car driving to New Jersey for his funeral. Years later my sister-in-law would lose her fight with cancer on this very day.

One Christmas Eve as our family was preparing for our celebration; my mother-in-law was rushed to the hospital only never to return home.

The sting of their absence over the years affected our Christmas seasons. We no longer participated in some of our Christmas traditions. Each season we remembered our loss.

And then joy entered our hearts again. Our grandson was born on December 23 and recovery came.

JOY is strength

Joy is not just the absence of suffering, it is the presence of God. There is joy in the season and the celebration, not because of our circumstances, but because Jesus is the Reason for the Season. Jesus came so we could find God’s joy in all things.

Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.          (Nehemiah 8:10b)

angel-564351_640If you find yourself struggling with sadness, anxiety, or loneliness at this time of year, Romans 15:13 is my prayer for you.

 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

May you keep the hope of God’s joy in your heart all year long.

Merry Christmas!

Love, Maureen

Receive the Gift of No Condemnation

gift-1760869_640

Here we are in the season of gift giving. The excitement of Christmas and Hanukkah surround us. Are you excited about the perfect gift you found for a special someone? In your mind, you are rehearsing the joyful surprise of the blessing to come as you hand them their gift.

Jesus gave many gifts to those he called His sons and daughters. Among His many blessings, He is reaching out to you to receive His gift of No Condemnation.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1

In chapter 8 of the gospel of John, Jesus teaches about overcoming condemnation from others.

The scribes and Pharisees attempted to discredit and challenge Jesus by bringing a woman charged with adultery before Him. Adultery was punishable by stoning under the law of Moses. Jesus responded to those who judged her, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” Those who heard it, being convicted by their sins, dropped their stones and walked away.

When Jesus found himself alone with the woman, he said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”  She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

The power to live a lifestyle free from sin comes from accepting the wonderous gift of Jesus taking on the condemnation for our sins. Now that is the freedom to walk in peace, joy, and faith, and to live the abundant life that Jesus came to give us!

And if the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed! John 8:36

Pray EasyThank you, Lord, for the abundant gifts you give to your children.

Living a Joyful Life

joyful-life-3

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.  Psalm 5:11

Don’t we all long for happiness? Looking at these cute little sheep makes me happy, but happiness is based on things, surroundings, and circumstances. Even the US Declaration of Independence proclaims that we have the right to “the pursuit of happiness.” A common myth is happiness is found “on the other side of the fence where the grass is always greener. ”  (view the previous blog). Nowhere in the Bible does God advise us to pursue happiness. The happiness that we seek is elusive and fleeting, but joy is permanent.

Joy is dependence on God; He is everything we need. Joy is from the Lord, and He gives us the strength to experience joy in the midst of trials and tests.  A fruit of the Spirit, true joy is a special gift that only is available to believers.

God wants us to be ” full of joy.” It is a natural part of our lives when we are connected to Him. Joy is the ever-deepening awareness that our lives are hidden in Christ. This is a unique kind of joy because it is heavenly, not earthly.

You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence. Acts 2:28

joyful-life4There are 192 Scriptures about JOY in the NKJV of the Bible. That is enough reason to give this fruit of the Spirit some added study. (All Scriptures are from NKJV).

Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.                                                                     Nehemiah 8:10b

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,  knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.         James 1:2-3

Pray-ButtonThank you, Lord, for providing us with the gift of true JOY to withstand trials and tests. You have given us everything we need!
